Exciting News!

What’s this about a new library?

Big things are happening with your local library.

What do the Friends of the Republic Library Do?

Friends of the Republic Library raise money that enables our library to move from good to great — providing the resources for additional programming, much needed equipment, support for children’s summer reading, and special events throughout the year.

The Friends’ gift of their time, money, and commitment to the library sets an example for all how volunteerism leads to necessary civic engagement for the betterment of our community.

Lifelong learning

The Friends’ work highlights the fact that our library is the cornerstone of the community, providing opportunities for all to engage in the joy of life-long learning and connect with the thoughts and ideas of others from ages past to the present.

The Friends understand and convey just how important a well-funded library is and work to ensure that our library is able to provide a wide variety of services to all ages, including access to print and electronic materials, assistance in research, readers’ advisory, and children’s services, and so much more.

I love public libraries because they are built on the principle that books are so important and so necessary to human flourishing that access to them cannot depend on your income.”

New Library Plans

The key to lifting citizens up in our remote area relies upon services for families, youth, and seniors. The Republic public library needs to increase capacity for patrons and the greater community to provide lifelong learning opportunities and a warm and welcoming facility.

In addition to library materials, we envision:

  • an all-season, natural play space for kids;
  • a place for teens to learn constructively;
  • a place for senior citizens to gather;
  • a soundproof room and quiet space;
  • an office and break room dedicated for staff;
  • a functional, flexible community-use area with a stage;
  • accessible STEM and other hands-on programming space;
  • a commercial kitchen for events, meetings, and demonstrations;
  • a protected outdoor area for play;
  • ample parking;
  • a building that our community will be proud of.

We are working with community partners to meet as many needs as possible at this location. The library will be separate from, but potentially co-located with a new community hall, City Hall, and other needed facilities as defined by the community during the design process.

FORL does not anticipate using new tax dollars or a levy for this facility. North Central Library, a five county system with 30 Libraries, has funding set aside for furnishing our new library; there are endowed funds set aside; and community focused grants are available to us.
